Our Historical Background
2018 - 2019: The Birth of FSGChallenge
The idea for FSGChallenge, Inc. was conceived in April 2018 by Dr. Joseph G. Conteh while he was writing his PhD dissertation. Driven by his passion for addressing global challenges, Dr. Conteh envisioned a nonprofit organization that would focus on providing innovative solutions to pressing issues worldwide. He decided to name the organization Formula and Solutions for Global Challenges (FSGChallenge).
To bring this vision to life, Dr. Conteh reached out to a group of trusted individuals, including Mr. Abu Morlai Kamara, a colleague at the University of Sierra Leone; Dr. Sorie Saidu Kamara, the Dean of Freetown Teachers’ College; and Mr. Peter Soulaiman Bangura, a former Director of Demographics at the Sierra Leone National Statistics Department. Despite Mr. Bangura’s dismissal from his duties due to political reasons, he joined the team, contributing his experience to the initiative.
Together, the team began their work by pooling resources to support teachers in remote communities of Sierra Leone who were not on government payroll. They also assisted schoolchildren whose families could not afford education fees and helped college students who had dropped out due to financial constraints. The team volunteered alongside other civil society organizations in city centers, fostering community development.
2020 - 2021: Expanding Efforts Amid the Pandemic
In 2020, Dr. Conteh traveled to Sierra Leone to conduct field research for his dissertation. During his visit, he had several meetings with his core team, which included Mr. Kamara, Dr. Kamara, and Mr. Bangura. As the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the globe, the team recognized the urgent need for public health education and support.
They decided to engage local youth and women as volunteers to help raise awareness about the prevention of COVID-19 and assist in vaccination centers. The team's efforts were crucial in disseminating important information and ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable communities in Sierra Leone during this global health crisis.
2022 - 2023: Continuing the Mission Despite Challenges
By 2022, Dr. Conteh had completed his doctoral degree and continued to inspire his team to persevere despite the hardships faced by the country, Sierra Leone. He emphasized the importance of remaining committed to their mission, despite the many challenges.
During this period, Dr. Conteh and Mr. Kamara also expanded their efforts to assist financially distressed Africans, helping those in dire need and offering critical support to those struggling with economic difficulties. Their continued work highlighted the team’s commitment to making a positive impact beyond the borders of Sierra Leone.
2024: Registration and Formalization of FSGChallenge
In early 2024, after years of grassroots work and expanding their reach, Dr. Conteh and his team held a virtual meeting to discuss the future of the organization. They agreed that it was time to formalize the organization’s status and broaden its impact on a global scale. The decision was made to register FSGChallenge both in the United States and Sierra Leone.
On December 5, 2024, FSGChallenge was officially incorporated in the State of Delaware, USA. The organization also secured its Employer Identification Number (EIN), marking a significant milestone in its growth. Subsequently, the process to register the organization in Sierra Leone was initiated, solidifying the organization’s international presence and commitment to its mission.
